ABL is put ‘on the spot’ by The Yorkshire Post

Earlier this month, our apprentice finance administrator, Chloe English, graced the pages of the Yorkshire Post’s business section, as she was put ‘on the spot’ in a series of ‘getting to know you’ questions. In case you missed it, catch up below.

What was your first job?

My very first job was working in my parent’s pub, where I currently live and have done since the age of four. Perhaps this is where I get my great work ethic.

If you weren’t in your current position what would you be doing?

I love fashion and shopping, so I’d definitely be working somewhere in retail. I really enjoyed my time at River Island prior to my role at ABL but the world of commercial finance called.

What was your worst mistake?

Going to college instead of taking an apprenticeship was, for me, the wrong decision. Gaining the skills in the workplace, rather than the classroom, is more suited to my learning style. Plus, you get so much work experience when completing your qualification, unlike at college.

What is your ideal day away from the office?

Retail therapy is my go-to for letting my hair down when I am away from my desk. A day of shopping is all I need to reset and recharge.

Name one person you would most like to have dinner with and why?

Bernard Arnault — chief executive of LVMH Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton – so we can talk about fashion and handbags! I am sure he will also be able to give a few top tips about the world finance too, with him being head-to-head with Jeff Bezos for richest man in the world.

What was your best subject at school?

Sport! I competed at a high-level in gymnastics during my time at school, training three days a week. I also attended dance classes and performed in several competitions. On top of that, I am a football fanatic and played for West Yorkshire Girls Centre of Excellence before moving on, at the age of 11, to join Huddersfield Town Ladies FC, where I continued to play until recently.

What are your hobbies?

Have I mentioned my obsession with shopping yet? In my spare time, I’m always trawling the internet for the latest trends and, before the pandemic, my favourite thing to do was to hunt for bargains in shops.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?

I’ve always fancied visiting Dubai and would even consider living there. I’d love to start a property portfolio too and become a real-estate tycoon. I’d also like to give something back, probably to young people looking for apprenticeships like I was.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

I am a shoe-a-holic and have too many pairs. There’s a special place in my heart for a lovely pair of trainers but I am definitely running out of wardrobe space!

What is your favourite time of day?

I love evening. Kicking off my shoes after a satisfying day in the world of finance is the best feeling ever.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

I’m a bit too young to be thinking about epitaphs but if I had to choose one, it would be: “Where ever she goes, there’s laughter.”
